Jake Russell

Dr. Jake Russell is an Operating Partner at Propeller, working with portfolio companies and WHOI teams to identify and execute robust commercialization strategies.

Previously, Jake was a Fellow at ARPA-E, the Department of Energy’s moonshot tech innovation agency. During his 2-year term in Washington, he worked to develop multimillion dollar funding programs in ocean carbon measurement and freight logistics, and also spent time studying maritime decarbonization, macroalgae cultivation, and superconductors. He is an alumnus of the Clean Energy Leadership Institute DC 2022 cohort. Jake earned his PhD in materials chemistry at Columbia University, studying the energy storage properties of polymers and inorganic clusters. During this time, he also worked with Columbia Technology Ventures, helping to assess academic inventions and bring them from lab to market. He completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Chicago with a major in chemistry and minor in molecular engineering.

In his free time, Jake enjoys hiking, biking, baking bread, and playing the guitar and French horn.
