Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego is one of the most important centers for global earth science research and education in the world. Scripps leads research in climate change impacts and adaptation, resilience to hazards, conservation and biodiversity, oceans and human health, national security, and innovative technology to observe the planet.

Oregon State University College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences is among the best in the world, with faculty and students at the forefront of exploring, understanding and protecting this vast, vital resource. Research in this arena spans physical oceanography, paleooceanography, nearshore science, elemental cycles and food webs, land-sea interaction and more, emphasizing the linkages among biological, chemical, physical and human systems. University of Hawai’i at Manoa is part of the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences and Technology (SOEST), and has three main divisions: Physical Oceanography, Marine Geology and Geochemistry (MGG), and Biological Oceanography. With more than 50 graduate faculty, we teach and advise students in a wide variety of themes and subject matter within the field of Oceanography. The University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) educates marine scientists, students, policymakers, business leaders and citizens and helps develop the knowledge and skills necessary to address present and future marine challenges. This mission is accomplished through an integrated program of research, education and public outreach. Field and ship-based observations, including time-series studies coupled with laboratory work and modeling, provide a comprehensive approach to studying coastal and blue water oceans throughout the world.
