How we met: We originally met at a conference, and encouraged them to attend our Ocean MBA.

Propeller theme: Ocean Carbon, Organics, Industrials

Propeller investment stage: Pre-seed

Kelly Zheng and Thomas Storwick built Hum off of a shared interest in seaweed and Earth observation data. But today, they're shooting for something much broader: artificial general intelligence using vision data.

  • Why we love the founders – Thomas and Kelly are insatiable, charismatic and deeply mission oriented. They could be doing many things with their brilliance-and they are turning it to a healthier and more vibrant ocean and planet.
  • What’s novel about Hum’s tech – They make the underwater, and much more visible, from space(!).
  • Why we’re excited about this market– Hum's technology can be turned into a host of applications: agriculture, defense, environmental monitoring. But at full potential, it should give us a deep understanding of things we can see, and allow us to query, learn from and build off it. This is an unlimited market, and a crucial one to climate.
  • How impactful Hum could be – Hum can drive real insight into the natural world by leveraging the inference possible using AI foundation models. We could be more in tune with the earth (listening to its hum) than ever before.
