Ocean Day is every day at Propeller

Happy World Ocean Day from everyone at Propeller!  It’s been a busy start since we got going about a year ago, and in honor of World Ocean Day, we thought we’d share some progress thus far!  

• Despite the broader market slowdown, Propeller is actively investing and building ocean-climate solutions. We have already closed 8 investments with a few more closing soon!
• We are now in our second round of our grant program with WHOI which will accelerate additional, impactful ocean-climate projects to advance science and solutions towards commercialization. We’re excited by the progress of these projects as we allocate funding to transformative ideas.
• We just ran our third Ocean MBA program, and have now helped accelerate over 60 ocean founders on their entrepreneurial journeys. 
• We’re excited to finally share a preview of our portfolio. While most of our portfolio companies are still in stealth, you can see the areas in which our founders are doing impactful work. It is a pleasure working with such brilliant, persistent, and inspiring founders in the ocean-climate space and we can't wait to reveal each of them!

• Climate Central released an impactful and informative World Ocean Day briefing for which our Partner, Dr. Julie Pullen is an expert advisor. Worth a full read, but some topline reminders here:
• 2022 was the warmest year on record for oceans, and 2023 temperatures continue to rise
• Oceans store around 45x more carbon than the atmosphere
• Oceans absorb 90% of the heat from carbon pollution

We believe that ocean health and resilience is critical to supporting all life on Earth. As we celebrate World Ocean Day today (and everyday!), we want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the urgent need to protect our ocean and safeguard the health of our planet.
